The Club's project for 2005 - 2006 is the Drive-a-Train layout. It is an 8ft x 4ft fold-away layout designed as a 'fifty pence for five minutes' railway that the younger exhibition visitor can use to learn how to drive their very own train.
The original intention was a 'single engine in steam' traditional layout with a station building, a goods shed, a town scene and even a church with a wedding.
How the ideas change as a project moves forwards!
Although some railway elements have survived (the platforms and control tower, etc), the rest of the layout has been transplanted firmly into the twenty-first century with a helicopter base, a skate park and a 'graffiti style' backscene.
A Bachmann Class 08 - 08800 hauls a TPO coach past the derelict wood yard
The short TPO train exits the tunnel. The road over the top can just be seen, the wood yard is seen in the background.
Lima's Class 67 - 67003 glides past the skateboard scene. The eye-catching backscene is much in evidence
The Class 67 approaches a platform stop. The Helicopter landing pads can be seen in the upper right of the picture.
A rescue helicopter is captured as it gently alights on its landing pad at the rear of the layout.
